The hotel industry is eager to open its empty rooms to those seeking a quiet place to work.

According to the American Hotel and Lodging Association, a trade group, hotel occupancy is projected to be 38% in 2020, which would make it the worst year on record. Occupancy was 66% in 2019. Eight in 10 hotel rooms are vacant, the group says, and 70% of hotel employees have been laid off or furloughed.
