Where most of us go to work each and every day without fearing for our lives, police officers do the opposite. Going to work for them could mean that they’ll be placed in a position where someone could harm or kill them-and, unfortunately, this scenario often plays out for far too many of society’s defenders.
The following represents a number of recent news items where a police officer was either injured or killed. Those who die in the line of duty do so for the good of each and every one of us.

Indiana police officer dies after crashing car during pursuit | #ESC_LLC #Death #Police #Automobile | According to Indiana State Police, the chase began near Charlestown in Clark County around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday and made its way into Scott County. Sgt. Benton Bertram of the Charlestown Police Department tried to stop a teal 1998 Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation, but the car wouldn’t pull over and headed north on State Road 3 into Scott County.
As the pursuit continued, Bertram approached the intersection of State Road 3 and State Road 56 near Scottsburg; his vehicle crossed State Road 56 and went off the road, hitting a tree in the front yard of a residence. (click here)
Miami-Dade police identify officer killed in ATV crash | #ESC_LLC #Death #ATV #Police | “It is with a heavy heart that I can now confirm the tragic death of Miami-Dade Police Department Officer Jermaine Brown. Assigned to our South District, Officer Brown was fatally injured while conducting an enforcement detail near a canal bank,” police department director Juan Perez said in a statement issued shortly before 9 a.m.
The crash happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday near Southwest 211th Street near a canal next to South Dixie Highway, police said. (click here)
Palatine police kill man who ran down officer; shooting linked to death investigation | #ESC_LLC #Police #Automobile #Investigation | The woman found dead in an apartment on the 300 block of North Brockway Street was identified early Monday as 74-year-old Polly A. Vaughan, officials from the Cook County Medical Examiners Office released. She is scheduled to be autopsied Monday afternoon.
The events unfolded just before 2 a.m., police said, when someone called 9-1-1 stating that a murder had occurred, authorities said.
When officers arrived and began speaking with a resident, a car in the parking lot was driven fast toward the officers, police said. The vehicle veered off the pavement and onto the grass, striking an officer and a civilian before hitting the apartment building on the 300 block of Brockway Street. (click here)
‘Texas Seven’ escapee convicted in Irving police officer’s death is executed | #ESC_LLC #Conviction #Police #Death | A member of the notorious “Texas Seven” gang of escaped prisoners was executed Tuesday evening for the fatal shooting of an Irving police officer during a Christmas Eve robbery 18 years ago this month.
The U.S. Supreme Court refused to halt the execution of Joseph Garcia, 47, and he received a lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville. (click here)
Los Angeles police are investigating the death of a campus officer at an elementary school | #ESC_LLC #Police #Death #Investigation | in Hollywood. The Los Angeles Unified School District officer was found at Valley View Elementary school on Woodrow Wilson Drive in Hollywood.
The circumstances of the officer’s death has not been disclosed. Los Angeles Police Department officers are investigating. (click here)
