Portable Fire Extinguishers Save Lives

John Larkin, Senior Partner
There’s no doubt that it costs money to purchase, test, and maintain portable fire extinguishers. And if you place them in public accessible locations, such as retail stores, even apartment buildings, there’s always the issue of theft or vandalism.

First, it was reported in a blog called en-Gauge that over 5 million lives were saved by portable fire extinguishers in 2010 in the United States alone! So again I ask, is it worth the time and expense required to purchase, mount, test, and maintain fire extinguishers in your facility? Not only is it a moral and ethical thing to do, but it’s required by most if not all local, county, and state governments across this nation.

One of the biggest concerns that professionals have in regard to what fire extinguisher to use on what type of fire is misapplication. For example, using a water-type fire extinguisher on an electrical fire can result in severe injury or death to the person using the extinguisher. It’s important to assure that the right fire extinguisher is mounted in the right spot, which by itself is not all of the answer.

The other part of the solution is to simply know what works and where to use it, hence ESC is providing the following offer:
